Stopham Vineyard
We visited Stopham as they started their harvest. We spoke to them about the support that they got from Chichester District council and how that has helped them to move forward on their sustainability journey.

‘Our business is firmly rooted in the need for all companies to conduct themselves in an environmentally responsible manner. It is incredibly important that we drive improvements in sustainability across our own operations and Invest Chichester has facilitated a big step forward for us on this. We know that the work we do and the vision we have are valued by both our customers and our team; it helps attract talented people and investment to the Chichester area and the benefits will be felt long-term.’
Established in 1994 in Chichester, Waterscan set out to change the way businesses think about water. Since then, the company has consistently innovated to become the driving force for sustainable water use in the non-household sector.
Waterscan works with many of the UK’s leading organisations including retail, manufacturing, hospitality, business services and the public sector, helping them become more water efficient. In doing so, they achieve considerable consumption and cost savings along with resilience to the impacts of climate change, while protecting our most critical natural resource for future generations.
The company constantly looks at ways it can reduce the environmental impact of its own operations in line with its integrated Management System aligned to ISO14001.
With its company head office in Chichester city centre, Waterscan was eligible to apply for a LoCASE grant to use for renewable energy and has installed solar panels that will deliver around 35% of its energy requirements. Within a month of installation, the company was using very little energy from the national grid.

We’re excited about the future and looking forward to connecting with the Chichester College Group and the University of Chichester to bring in new talent this year.
When Lewis Clark started Barclay Search, the now leading IT recruitment specialist, in 2015 little did he know how much life would change over the coming years.
Originally based in Surrey, during Covid he made the decision to move his family and his business to Chichester. He was drawn to the area because of its high quality of life, excellent schools, and secure atmosphere. Once his family were settled, he was on the search for new premises. The local commercial agents were supportive and showed him around a variety of premises, but when he was shown the Basepoint Enterprise Centre, he knew he had found the new home for his business.
“This area is fantastic for families and businesses, it’s well placed for everything my family and business needs,” Lewis said when we spoke with him. “We’re excited about the future and looking forward to connecting with the Chichester College Group and the University of Chichester to bring in new talent this year.”
