The Chichester District Council economic team were fundamental in our move to chichester, from support with suggesting premises, to connecting us with other businesses, organisations and suppliers.

Paua

Paua are a re-useable packaging materials technology company, originally born out of the frustration of sports equipment being damaged in transit, our first product prototypes were designed and built to transport high value surfboards around the globe.

Since 2016 we have dedicated years to researching and developing the ultimate in reusable, lightweight, durable and highly protective packaging solutions which are now used globally in logistics, sports, pharmaceutical, tactical and many more industries.

Paua have recently opened a new headquarters in Chichester dedicated to R&D, Innovation and Rapid Prototyping. The new facility has brought together our team in one location and allowed us to bring the majority of our prototyping inhouse. The move has also provided an increased capacity to design and develop new products and gives the capability to further test our materials.

In addition to the new space and facilities, the new location has also meant the creation of six new roles in our team, in order to increase output to match customer demands.

The Chichester District Council economic team were fundamental in our move to chichester, from support with suggesting premises, to connecting us with other businesses, organisations and suppliers. The grant they provided to purchase machinery has meant we were able to expand our team and employ more people locally.

Is there a better location to do business whilst achieving a positive work/life balance? Not that we have discovered!

The Woodhorn Group

The Woodhorn Group is a family owned SME, employing 32 staff, with its roots very much in farming but one that has diversified over the years. The Organic dairy and arable farm drives a long established environmental focus reflected by the UK wide award of ‘Sustainable Farm of the Year’ in 1995. The Woodhorn Group also has a diverse commercial property portfolio of offices, workshops and small factories.

Three recycling sites process c.90 000 tons p.a. of green waste from households, horticulture and landscapers into natural peat free compost and soil products. These are retailed under the Earth Cycle brand to customers ranging from large infrastructure projects and the horticultural industry to the general public and the landscape trade.

The Chichester district has a large, relatively affluent population creating opportunity for all types of business. The region is served with excellent transport links combined with good proximity to large urban markets and export routes to the continent. There is a thriving SME community supporting a diverse range of extremely large industries of national importance. As we increasingly recognise quality of life as a driver to both staff recruitment, retention and performance, we further appreciate our location with the unique proximity of countryside and sea with the many leisure inherent opportunities, combined with cultural centres such as Chichester, Brighton and London within easy reach.

The Enterprise Centre provided us with a stable base, which enabled us to take on more staff and additional units as we grew

Patterson Dental

Established by registered dental technician Mark Patterson, Patterson Dental combines traditional methods and cutting-edge digital design to create life-like dental restorations for both clinics and patients directly.

We have been able to provide a variety of support to the company, with our Economic Development team advising Mark about networking, introductions and all the different grant opportunities that are available.

“The Enterprise Centre provided us with a stable base, which enabled us to take on more staff and additional units as we grew,” says Mark. “When we started out we opted for a rolling monthly contract which gave us the opportunity to expand quickly if needed. When we were looking for premises, we immediately saw the potential of the Enterprise Centre: it was new and clean and we liked its convenient location off the A27. It was ideal as we could have our own workshop and enjoy all the associated facilities such as on-site parking and support, a separate rest room and additional toilet and shower facilities. We were also able to hire the meeting rooms as we needed them. We are really excited about the future of our business and have lots of plans. We have just acquired our third laboratory and plan to acquire more across the country. Ravenna Point will be our central hub for milling and 3D printing and this will service our satellite labs. We hope that this will lead to many more employment opportunities in the district, and we are also working on a project with local dentists to create more efficient services.”
